Overview

Two days give you the best light of a safari: a sunset game drive and an early-morning one, when animals are at their most active. On day one you cross Tsavo East from Bachuma Gate, stopping at Aruba Dam, then leave the park at Voi for the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, a private sanctuary on the corridor between Tsavo East and Tsavo West. You stay overnight on full board and head out again at dawn, before driving back to your hotel in time for dinner.

  • Tsavo East's red elephants and a break at Aruba Dam
  • A sunset game drive and a dawn game drive in the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Back on the coast in time for dinner on day two

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between the day trip and this 2-day safari?

The 2-day safari adds a sunset drive, a night at a lodge and a dawn drive, when animals are most active. You also split the driving from the coast over two days.

Which lodge do we stay in?

The sanctuary has two lodges: Salt Lick Safari Lodge, built on stilts, and Taita Hills Safari Resort & Spa. Ask us which one your dates use when you request a quote.

Why is there a minimum of 4 people?

The price shown is per person based on 4 sharing a vehicle. Smaller groups can book; the price per person is higher. Ask us for a quote.

Is the Taita Hills sanctuary part of Tsavo?

No. It's a private wildlife sanctuary of about 28,000 acres on the corridor between Tsavo East and Tsavo West, so animals move freely between them.

What should I pack for one night?

A small bag with a warm layer for the morning drive, a torch, chargers, binoculars and any medication.
