Frequently asked questions
18 questions shown
How far is Tsavo East from Diani?
About 3–4 hours by road to Bachuma Gate, the main gate for visitors from the coast. From Mombasa it's roughly 100–110 km, or 2–4 hours depending on traffic. That's why our day trip leaves between 05:30 and 06:30: you reach the park while the animals are still active.
Are park fees included in your prices?
Each trip page lists what's included and what isn't, and we confirm park fees in your quote. As of 28 October 2026, Kenya Wildlife Service lists non-resident adult fees of USD 80 for Tsavo East and Tsavo West, USD 90 for Amboseli and USD 25 for Kisite-Mpunguti, with lower child rates. These fees were introduced on 1 October 2025 and challenged in court, so we always confirm the amount that applies.
What time is pick-up for the day trip?
Pick-up is between 05:30 and 06:30, depending on where you're staying. We tell you your exact time when we confirm your quote.
Can children join a safari?
Yes. Tell us the ages when you ask for a quote and we'll advise on the best trip. A day trip is a long day for young children; an overnight safari splits the driving over two days. We confirm child rates, minimum ages and car seats in your quote.
Do you pick up from Mombasa and Malindi hotels?
Yes. We collect guests from hotels in Diani, Mombasa and Malindi/Watamu. Tell us where you're staying when you ask for a quote and we'll confirm the pick-up time.
How do I pay?
No payment is needed to get a quote. We confirm the deposit and payment options when we send your quote.
What's your cancellation policy?
We confirm the cancellation terms in your quote and in our terms and booking conditions.
What vehicle will we use?
A pop-up-roof safari vehicle, so everyone can stand and watch the animals with the roof up.
Is Tsavo safe?
Tsavo is a well-managed national park. You stay in the vehicle except at designated points, and your driver-guide knows the park and the rules for watching wildlife safely.
Do I need malaria tablets?
Tsavo is in a malaria area, with the highest risk around the rainy seasons (March–May and November–December). Ask your doctor or a travel clinic for advice before you travel, for example through NHS Fit for Travel or the CDC.
What should I wear?
Neutral, comfortable layers, a warm top for early mornings, a hat, sunglasses and closed shoes. Expect red dust, so wear things you don't mind washing.
How much should I tip?
Tips are not included in our prices. We're happy to advise on a fair amount for your guide when you book.
What languages do your guides speak?
Our driver-guides speak English. Ask us if you need another language and we'll tell you what we can arrange.
Will we see the Big Five?
Never guaranteed. Elephants and buffalo are common, lions are regularly seen in Tsavo East, and leopards and rhinos are harder to find. Your guide will spend the day looking for as much as possible.
Are dolphins guaranteed at Kisite?
No. Resident Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins are often seen around Kisite, but wildlife is never guaranteed.
Can you arrange airport, SGR or hotel transfers?
Ask us. Tell us what you need and we'll tell you what we can arrange.
Are you licensed?
Ask us for our licence details when you request a quote.
